Printing Your pattern
When printing from home you must have Adobe Acrobat Reader on your computer
- Open your downloaded PDF file in Adobe Acrobat Reader
- If you don’t have it download it here: https://get.adobe.com/reader/
- Click the printer icon, a “Print” window should appear.
As you go down the commands in the ‘Printing Box”
- Select the printer you want to print your pattern
- If you have the option, click the following box
- Print in Grey Scale
- DO NOT click “Save Ink/Toner” as this may make the pattern too light to see through your silk.
- If you have the option, click the following box
- Print to pages
- Select “All”
- Page Sizing & Handling
- Click “Poster”
- “Tile Scale” should be set to 100%
- Click “Cut Marks” to check this box so it prints cutting guide marks
- Decide if you want the pages print in Landscape (horizontally) or in Portrait (vertically) format.
- Click “Print”
- Cut “overlap” edge off of only one edge of the pattern so you have a more secure taping edge
- Adjust the pattern so that the lines match up
- Tape pattern pieces together
If you don’t get a Print Window that looks as described above, look for the 3 dots (...) in the upper right corner and click on them. Choose "more tools“ then "open with Internet Explorer” in the drop-down menu. This will open your file in a browser window. Click the printer icon at the bottom of the page or right-click your mouse anywhere on the page. Then you can complete the steps above.
When printing a pattern file at your local printer - walk in
- Please note, plan on bringing proof of purchase. Reputable printers will require it before printing your pattern.
( We used Staples© as an example only because they are close to where we live. Using online services through other companies may vary)
- Request light bond paper (Engineering/Blue Print paper)
- Request exact size print at 300 dpi
- Print in black and white (colored will cost more and is not needed)
- Verify cost to print. (most patterns should be $3.00 to $4.00 in the US. If the price is a lot more, check that the correct type of paper or printing mode has been selected for your project.)
