Skills to Create

Courses

“Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up.”

Pablo Picasso, and the line Sue built this on

Course 1, Seeing Beyond the Obvious, is written and taught by Sue Wachter. The pilot for the 2026-27 school year is free: sign in, do Lesson 1, send Sue your feedback, and the next lesson opens.

Seeing Beyond the Obvious

Connecting math and art. Series 1, Tools and Clues Everywhere, is seven short lessons on lines and angles. Series 2, Shape, Balance and Composition, builds on them with shape, structure, and visual balance.

  • Lesson 1: Straight Edges is the free sample
  • Send Sue your feedback to open Lesson 2, and so on
  • Standards notes for teachers who keep records

Who this is for

Anyone who was told they weren’t an artist.

Sue teaches the same way at every age: short lessons, no oversimplifying, and time to let each piece of learning develop on its own.

01

Kids

Sue has taught students as young as six. Lessons run in three to ten minute sprints, so the habit of looking sticks before attention runs out.

02

Families

Work through a lesson together at home. The course values are simple: curiosity over perfection, observation over speed, awareness over rules.

03

Teachers

The 2026-27 Skills to Create pilot is free for classrooms and comes with notes on National Core Arts Standards and Common Core geometry for your records.

04

Adults who quit

If a teacher once told you your art wasn’t good enough, start again here. The lessons work the same for a grown-up as for a six-year-old.

For teachers and parents

Bring Skills to Create to your classroom.

The pilot runs through the 2026-27 school year and is free. Tell Sue about your students and what you need, and she will write back herself.
